Dear melissa- My heart sings when I hear your enthusiasm and excitement. And it looks like the girls in the program have really bonded. What fun! OK, here goes. How do they play football if they are deaf and can't hear the calls and if they sign the calls, can that be an advantage for the opposing team who might brush up on ASL just to beat the Bisons? How much of your course work is centered around the deaf population and how much with the hearing impaired. And do you have standard Sp/Language classes in other stuff like aphasia, laryngectomy, etc.? Do you have labs or clinics when you actually observe therapy? All is well here at Audiology of the Sandhills only we could sure use Ol' Meliss, we are wide open busy. Miss you gobs, Kate
Hi Little Missy, so good to know that you are enjoying school and making so many new friends. We thank you for sharing the exciting news of David's engagement, what fun the family will have planning for such a special event.
Melissa, when I'm reminded of you attendidng Gallaudent my memories go back to our session retreats (you were there for one when you served one year with me)when the group of deaf students would be there and how I felt when we would walk in the cafeteria to silence, but yet they were communication so well with each other. The feeling was good, but different feeling, one that I don't know how to describe, but I like how I felt as I watched the expressions of those beautiful individuals loving and communicating in a deminision that I did not understand. Melissia, I say this to tell you how proud we all are of your accomplishments and how you will be helping those in need. Your mom and dad are so very proud of you, but they miss you a lot while you are away learning so much.
Remember Don's son Stephen Hiscott lives in Falls Church,VA should you ever need help, just find him in the phone book.
Take care and we miss you,
Brenda Hiscott
Hey Melissa -
I just wrote a big ol' comment and I don't know what happened to it...I must have done something wrong :-(
Thrilled you are doing so well at school and like your new room set-up... thrilled about David and Vickie...and was thrilled your mom sent me a copy of the article that was in the paper about her and Jennifer!
Here's my question for you:
Do non-hearing students hear people talking in their dreams? Or do they dream of people signing to them as they communicate in dreams? Have you started dreaming of signing to communicate?
Hoping this comment will post!
Much love to you,
Margaret & Tim
Hi Melissa,
Your mom and dad tell me that you are extremely busy. Hope that you are happy and busy. How is your signing coming along? Are you getting any time to enjoy DC? What will you do for Thanksgiving? Are you picturing yourself in a career yet or too busy in the learning aspects?
We are so proud of you and hope that you are finding the experience fulfilling!
Love,
Steve,Ramona, Matthew, and Becca
